A Journey to finding the perfect horse property

Some days it seems as if the dream is so far out of reach it will never happen. Other days it seems right there…. What makes me stay the course?

The process of searching for the right place seems out of reach right now. I’m in the process of selling a small piece of property to help with a down payment on the right place when we find it. The frustration of being in a lower income bracket the past couple of years even though we have great credit has made it nearly impossible to take action on any property that we find. Our current residence is nearly paid for but I’m not wanting to move twice which is what we’ll need to do in order to do a cash purchase.

Why am I taking all this on, especially with the life circumstances we’ve had over the past couple of years? I guess the realization that life is short and we need to enjoy and live the best life possible. I think our DNA requires it. So I’m not going to get discouraged. I’ll pick myself up, dust off the pity and start by being grateful for what I have. I really love the place we live now…its just time for a change. I’ve always wanted to live a little closer to trails and the mountains. So I’m keeping on track.

I’ve already shared the ideal property with you but when other places come along that have some of the elements I’m looking for I constantly have to reassess the goals. It’s definitely a journey. Super glad I have a great real estate agent in Allison Trimble who is patient with my dilemma. Time to start living with an abundance mentality rather than thinking I’ll never have enough.

Thanks for joining me on this journey. It may be a while!

Owner/Publisher Karen’s lifelong love of horses began at a very early age when she wore out a couple of rocking horses before convincing her parents to get her the real thing. That ill-tempered bay gelding, Brandy, was a challenge for the young horsewoman, but it drove her ambition to become a horse trainer. After attending Canyonview Equestrian College’s Horsemanship Program, Karen realized she needed work that was a little more lucrative than training, so she took a job with Customs Brokerage to pay the bills. There, she discovered an affinity for computers and a talent for creating informative, entertaining newsletters. The Northwest Horse Source began as such a letter in December 1995, with a distribution of 1000 copies for its 12 black and white pages. Since then, it has grown into beautiful, all-gloss magazine with the largest coverage of any free equine publication in the Northwest – a distribution of over 16,000 copies and over 600 locations monthly. Not bad for the results of one woman’s dream to work with horses!

Today, Karen remains involved with every aspect of the magazine and treasures the community of thousands who share a common passion. Somewhere in the wee hours of the early mornings and late evenings, she still finds time to care for April, her gorgeous and sweet-tempered Quarter Horse.
