Don’t let the winter weather stop you from riding your horse! Lap robes are a blanket (of sorts) for the rider to wear over their lap and legs. There are two styles: a super water resistant, fleece-lined version for rainy days and a water resistant double fleece version for arena riding and dry cold days out on the trails. They are easy to use—one size fits all—and just wrap around the waist (will fit around 55 inches and still have 5 inches extra for a tail). It won’t spook your horse. Made to be safe and easy to get out of if necessary, the robe covers you (even your feet), plus the front of your saddle. The horse’s body heat beneath the robe also helps the rider stay warm. Combine a lap robe with a long riding coat and stay dry and warm, even in the murkiest of weather. The double fleece robe sells for $80 (includes tax) and is available in black or brown. The super water resistant/fleece-lined ones are $120 (includes tax) and come in only black. To order contact Martha Nicholas: phone 360-829-2141, email [email protected].

NWHS Review: Okay….love this piece of equipment! It doesn’t flap around and stays in place at walk/trot/lope. Didn’t worry my horse and kept me warm on a foggy fall afternoon. As I was riding I could feel the heat building up on my legs from my horse and my own body—nice and toasty. It also acts as a saddle cover to keep your saddle seat dry when you’ve dismounted as well; a snap keeps it in place while covering your saddle. Very well-made, from heavy material. Highly recommended for the cool weather rider.
