Teens and Oregon Mustang Competition Coming to McMinnville, OR

Home » Blog » News

The twenty trainers selected for this year’s event picked up their mustangs May 18 from Fitzgerald Farms in Yamhill, OR and have 98 days to gentle, ground train, improve overall body condition, prepare for showmanship, and expose their yearling horses to trail obstacles before the conclusion of the event on August 24, 2013 at the Yamhill County Fairgrounds. They will compete against one another for the title of Teens and Oregon Mustang Champion and a trophy saddle and various other prizes. The purpose of this competition is to showcase Oregon youth and the beauty, versatility, and trainability of these rugged horses that roam freely on public lands throughout the West. The yearling mustangs in this program were gathered from Oregon herd management areas by the BLM. The mustangs that are not being adopted by their trainer/trainer’s family will be available for pre-bidding starting in July at www.TeensandOregonMustangs.org. The live auction will begin after the competition on August 24, 2012 in McMinnville, OR. For more information or to donate please contact Erica Fitzgerald at 503-702-5359 or visit our website. The winner from last year’s event is currently training a 2 year old pinto gelding, “Ranger” (pictured above), that will be raffled off in October at the Extreme Mustang Makeover in Albany. Raffle tickets are $5 each and all proceeds go towards the Organization. To purchase raffle tickets please contact Erica.
