A “Patriotic Shoot” culminated the last of four in the sharpshooter series hosted by the Western Washington Mounted Shooters (WWMS) of Sultan, Washington. On September 11, 2011, the citizens of this quiet town were overwhelmed with pride seeing the convoy of horse trailers, sporting CMSA logos and American flags, stop in the local espresso drive-thru as they passed through town and over the bridge to the CAP Farm arena. Since this last point shoot of the series fell on 9/11, it was only fitting that the WWMS honor all individuals who lost their lives as a consequence of the devastating terror attacks of September 11, 2001. The WWMS paid tribute to the anniversary of the attacks with a grand entry that tugged at the hearts of not only the participants, but all of the spectators that came to watch the event. The mounted shooters entered and posted in the arena much like any other mounted shooting grand entry. However, once the shooters were posted, WWMS members who are Veterans or are still serving in the military entered with military and the POW/MIA flags  as their own personal military biography, to include military awards, was read by the announcer. Club President Heather Gastelum stated, “We have every branch of military based here in the Pacific Northwest, it was only fitting that we recognized them on this day. As time goes by, it’s easy to downplay the attacks of ten years ago.” For more information about WWMS visit their Facebook Page.
