Twenty-two Oregon teens from around the state were selected to participate in this year’s Teens and Oregon Mustangs Youth and Yearling Program. They will have 98 days to gentle their wild mustang before the competition on August 24th, 2013 at the Yamhill County Fairgrounds Rodeo Arena where they will compete for a trophy saddle, scholarships, belt buckles, and many other awards. The teens are given the choice to keep their mustang or auction it off in a live public auction that takes place at the end of the event. All of the proceeds from the sale of their mustang go directly back to the teen trainer.

This year’s yearling mustangs come from many different herds including Murders Creek, Paisley, Jackie’s Butte, and more. There are a huge variety of horses this year that will excel in many different disciplines and the teens are already making amazing progress with them. Many of the horses will be at the St. Paul Rodeo Parade on July 4th in St. Paul, Oregon. Teens and Oregon Mustangs will also have a booth at the rodeo so come by and visit, ask the teens questions, and support our great program.

The main fundraiser the program puts on every year is the Poker Ride at the Flying M Ranch in Yamhill, OR. This is a great opportunity for friends and family to spend the day or even the weekend together at the beautiful Flying M Ranch. All breeds and disciplines are welcome on the easygoing trails. Poker Hands are $5/each or five for $20. Due to generous donations we are able to give every poker hand a prize! Further information on our poker ride can be found on our Facebook page at Teens and Oregon Mustangs Poker Ride, or on our website at www.TeensandOregonMustangs.org.
