Fun Event to Fund Lord Hill Park Signs

In sunny Thorp, Washington spring is in full swing with blooming lupine, lilacs, and balsamroot.

Get a jump on your trail riding season by starting off the year with the Joe Watt Canyon Prize Ride. This ride is hosted by the Backcountry Horsemen of Washington, specifically the Traildusters Chapter (traildusters.org). It’s held on Saturday, May 19 in Thorp, WA (near Ellensburg) just two short hours from Seattle. Bring your friends and family and enjoy a trail that is designed for all levels of riding.

Food will be provided at the ride on Saturday by Cascade Mountain Grilling of Ellensburg. They will have delicious coffee, breakfast, and lunch available to purchase. Furthermore, musical entertainment will be provided before prizes are announced. There will be great prizes! Plus, the BCHW store will be there selling merchandise in case you need an extra layer or a cute coffee mug.

Come for the entire weekend and camp with family and friends in the beautiful grassy Joe Watt canyon. Enjoy a great trail ride, good company, and a scenic area. We would love meeting new folks and returning supporters as well.

Not only is this ride a fun-packed weekend, it’s also a fundraiser for specific trail projects throughout the state. This year the proceeds from this ride will go to improving the signage at 1400-acre Lord Hill Park located in Snohomish County. This park is enjoyed by people from all over the state, including equestrians, 4-H programs, Boy Scouts, hikers, bicyclists, fishermen, and for family day outings.

Many user groups have asked for additional informative signage at the park. In response, Traildusters chapter is teaming with Snohomish County Parks Department and using the funds raised from the Joe Watt Prize ride to answer this need.

We are excited to host this ride and meet new horse enthusiasts and catch up with returning individuals. We are planning on good weather, great times, and terrific riding! If you are interested in great camping experiences, meeting new friends, and helping maintain trails for future years, come join BCHW to participate in all of our fun events. Find more information on how to join at www.bchw.org.

Please see the Joe Watt Prize ride flyer for further questions or requirements. A Washington State Discover pass or a Washington Department of Wildlife Vehicle Access Pass is required. Passes can be obtained online at www.wdfw.wa.gov/licensing/discoverpass.

Back Country Horsemen of Washington is a 501c3 organization with 33 chapters across the state. They are dedicated to keeping trails open for all users, educating stock users in Leave-No-Trace practices, and providing volunteer service to resource agencies.
