On January 30th, 2011, The Nooksack Valley Rider’s lost a member and dear friend, Melanie Ann Plagerman, to Cystic Fibrosis. She was only 23-years-old. Melanie was diagnosed with CF at age two and spent her entire life battling this terrible disease which included two double lung transplants. Despite her illness, Melanie inspired everyone with her positive attitude, her strength of will, her sense of humor, and her strong faith in Jesus Christ.

All of her life Melanie loved riding and she loved gaming. Even when she was not feeling great you would find her out in the arena helping, oxygen tank in tow. She began competing as a youth on her pony Lightning and competed her whole life – as her health would allow. If she was weak and fell off her horse, she would stand up with a smile and say, “Well, at least I felt good enough to ride today!” Melanie’s final ride was on her faithful horse, Gus.

On Sunday, April 15th, 2012, The Nooksacker’s will host the 2nd Annual Melanie Ann Plagerman Memorial Show to Benefit Cystic Fibrosis, at the Washington Tractor Arena at the NW WA Fairgrounds in Lynden. The Show will begin around 9:30, following a Cowboy Church service and tribute at 8:30, with great awards in each age group. We will also have an incredible silent auction from 10:00 to 3:00 and a BBQ lunch around noon. For details on how to donate or for flyers and entry forms, visit our website at www.nooksackvalleyriders.com.
