The WRHA kicked off the year with over 500 runs at the Spring Fling in Wenatchee, Washington. Sponsored by Woodley Ranch, the Spring Fling hosted the non-pro and open derbies. What made this event so different from previous years is that in both the open and non-pro, the top two riders tied. Instead of going for a run-off or flipping a coin, the competitors decided to be named co-champions. In the open, top honors went to Shawn Church and Justa Nuther Chic, owned by Stephanie Church. Also taking home the first place check of $771.00 was Its Pardee Pine, ridden by Darren Stancik and owned by Kevin Montgomery. Taking home top honors—and checks for $849.19 each—in the non-pro derby were sisters Ryann and Carlie Mckinzie. Ryann steered her horse, A Genuine Sport, owned by Cindy and George McKenzie to the victory while her sister did so aboard her own mount, Light Footprints. Ryann McKinzie was no stranger to the winner’s circle during the Spring Fling, also topping the WRHA non-pro aboard Whiztacular. Trailing McKinzie was Debbie Estrin on Ruff Starbuck. The WRHA open class was dominated by Lexus Labelle. Labelle took home first and second place honors for owner Charles Schramm on his two horses. In the lead was Whizn With the Stars who was trailed by Schramm’s other horse, Whiz N Starlights. The WRHA is always grateful for the support of all sponsors and wishes to thank Diamond Sponsors—Woodley Ranch, Timberland Homes, Maria Danielli, and Northwest Weight Loss Surgery. We also thank our Platinum Sponsors—Horse Vidz Productions, Eve Willett Agency Insurance, and Seaview Automobiles as well as our Gold Sponsors—Bariatric Advantage, Coastal Community Bank, and Stancik Quarter Horses. The WRHA’s next show will be June 1-3, in Monroe, Washington at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds. Information on WRHA and upcoming shows can be found on the web at www.wrha.net or follow us on Facebook.
