All Ages are Welcome in this Family Sport

Adult mounted shooters compete in this fast action, timed event using two .45 caliber single action revolvers. Each gun is loaded with five rounds of specially prepared blank ammunition that will break a balloon up to about 15 feet, making the event safe for spectators. Each contestant engages a timed course of 10 balloons and there are approximately 60 different courses.

What about kids? Do they ride and shoot? Yes… and no. There are two wrangler divisions: Limited Wranglers – through age 9 and Open Wranglers—ages 10 and 11. Kids in the wrangler classes ride the same pattern as the grown-ups, but they shoot cap pistols, engaging each target as if they were shooting real blanks. Then, after the main match, the young wranglers shoot the Real McCoy (.45’s with blanks), 5 balloons from the ground while standing stationary with mom or dad at their side. Our wranglers learn firearm education and safety from a young age!
