The Adequan Select World show was held in Amarillo, Texas August 28 through September 3. Washington had seven qualifiers hit the road, most of them for their very first world show appearance. Connie Marvik qualified in Western Pleasure with Slow Riding, aka “Wyatt.” They finished in 10th place. Connie rides under the guidance of Kristy McCann and McCann Performance Horses. Also under the guidance of Kristy McCann, Renee Ryssel and Last Piece of Pie, aka “Guapo,” squeaked into the Western Riding Finals in 14th place, and then had a stellar performance that the judges will not soon forget. At her first appearance at the Select World Show, Renee and Guapo brought home 4th place in Western Riding also taking 1st place in the Intermediate Division. Leslie Kalbach and Blazing Smokey Joe, aka “Jake,” competed at the Select World show in Showmanship, Horsemanship, and Trail for the second year in a row. Leslie commented, “Many thanks to Mike and May Edwards for their guidance and support. Overall the show ran well, we had a great time, and it was fun to cheer on our fellow Washington competitors.”

Tracy Adams and her outstanding mare, Higher Prinzziples, qualified in Showmanship and Horsemanship with Kristy McCann as their trainer. This was Tracy’s first year at the Select World Show. Cindy Nakahara and A Screamin Zippo, aka “Martha Sue,” were also first-timers to the Select World Show. Constantly keeping her trainers, Mike and May Edwards on their toes, the team competed in Hunt Seat Equitation, Showmanship, and Trail. Nerves were a major problem for Cindy, but she was just happy to be there. “We’ll be back,” says Cindy. Stacy Muzljakovich of Duvall and her gelding, Breeze of Pleasure, placed in both Performance Halter Geldings (15th) and Showmanship (16th). Stacy also qualified in Western Horsemanship. This was Stacy’s first trip to Amarillo. Gunner Otness and the family’s home-bred gelding, Jet Roddin Zippo, placed 10th in Performance Halter Geldings at their first Select World Show appearance. Way to go Gunner and Jet!
