Dancing horses, speedy, spirited, silky and sleek horses: all will come together to celebrate the spirit of the horse at the 14th annual Northwest Horse Fair and Expo, presented by Bison Coach, March 21 through 24, at the Linn County Fair and Expo Center in Albany, Oregon. The huge horse fair will feature world class horse trainers and riders, a multitude of horse breed demonstrations and exhibits, a giant trade show, education through clinics, lectures and demos, and exhilarating equestrian entertainment – all for the enjoyment of Northwest horse lovers!

The All Breed Challenge!

The All Breed Challenge is back for its second exciting year, as contestants from multiple riding disciplines will show off their riding and training skills, competing for $3,000 in cash and additional prizes! Horse and rider teams, aged 12 and over, will negotiate an assortment of obstacles and challenges from a range of riding disciplines, including trail, timed events, reining, jumping, dressage, and much more! Horses and riders will be judged on accuracy, horsemanship, equitation and attitude of the horses. According to John Cloe, Event Founder and Manager, “We’re excited to bring back the All Breed Challenge, that showcases Northwest horse and rider talent! It’s fun for the audiences as well as the competitors, as each round gets more demanding and daring!”  The competition begins Thursday night and continues Friday, with a more difficult Semi-Final round on Saturday. The top riders will compete in a spirited Final Round on Sunday, including riveting Free Style Rides, as competitors vie for the title of All Breed Challenge Champion, and top prizes!
 
Equine Extravaganza
Horse enthusiasts can get a sample of the expo’s tasteful mixture of equine entertainment on Thursday evening, March 21, at the Equine Extravaganza, sponsored by KRKT. The evening show is the “appetizer” for the feast of festivities with horses that will continue for 3 full days at the expo. The menu of attractions includes thrilling tricks with horses, action-packed precision choreography on horseback, colorful costumes, and much more! With roots rich in Baroque flavor, elegant Black Friesians horses will dance in synchronized movement to music. Rounding out an evening of exceptional fun with horses, spectators can view a sample of soccer played on horseback! All this plus the first round of the All Breed Challenge, will serve up a full evening of family fun, sure to satisfy spectators with an appetite for equine entertainment!  
            
Clinics with Top-Notch Trainers & Instructors!
World Champion rider and trainer Chris Cox will headline a vast variety of clinics offered throughout the weekend, as he provides daily Horse Training sessions. Other top-notch presenters include: Steve Edwards working with Mules and Donkeys; Mark Bolender conducting Competitive Trail clinics; Cliff Swanson presenting Western Dressage; Jochen Schleese with SaddleFit4Life®; Rick Lamb from RFD-TV’s Horse Show Live; Kristina Harrison-Antell providing Dressage clinics; Peggy Cummings giving Connected Riding® presentations; Raye Lochert offering General Training; and Northwest area trainer Jasmine Lechner-Cyphert teaching Horsemanship. International instructors Jim Masterson, Equine Massage specialist, Carole Herder of Cavallo Horse & Rider, and Dana Boyd Miller from Andis Clippers, will also provide expert demos and lectures.

Chris Cox is one of the country’s leading horsemen and clinicians. Chris has been conducting clinics and demonstrations for over 25 years, teaching the principles and methods behind his no-nonsense, practical horsemanship. He has a busy touring and clinic schedule, as well as providing weekly RFD-TV programs. Chris received the 2006 Equestrian of the Year Award, and he is the only 3 time undefeated World Champion of the prestigious Road to the Horse event. Chris will provide 2 clinics daily at the Northwest Horse Fair, including groundwork, colt starting and working with more advanced horse training. He joins the Northwest Horse Fair from his ranch in Mineral Wells, Texas.

Steve Edwards, from Queen Valley, Arizona, has more than 35 years of experience teaching and training equine and riders in the mountains and deserts of Arizona. Steve offers clinics on understanding and training mules, donkeys and their owners. He focuses on partnership with the mule, teaching how to drive wagons, pack mules and trail ride. At the Northwest Horse Fair, Steve will provide mule and donkey training guidance and Trail Riding tips.

Mark Bolender is the country’s leading expert in Mountain Trail, Extreme Trail, and Competitive Trail, and is a three-time National Grand Champion. Mark owns and operates Bolender Horse Park in Washington State. He has designed and built Extreme Trail courses throughout the United States, Europe and Canada. Every one of Mark’s courses is designed to challenge the horse and rider of any skill level within the discipline. Mark’s Northwest Horse Fair clinics will teach audiences how to approach and negotiate obstacles successfully with their horses.

Cliff Swanson has been developing horses and advancing riders for over forty-four years. Currently he teaches Western Dressage and gives monthly clinics for the Western Dressage Association of Colorado. Cliff has judged horse shows featuring a multitude of breeds and disciplines and has given clinics in the United States and several foreign countries. Cliff and his stable, have won National and Reserve World Championships in all divisions of the Morgan Nationals. Cliff will provide daily Western Dressage clinics at the Northwest Horse Fair & Expo. Cliff hails from Castle Rock, Colorado.

Jochen Schleese, a former member of the German young rider’s Three-day Event team, has made a lifelong study of equine development, saddle design, the biomechanics of horse and rider in motion, and the effects of ill-fitting saddles. A Certified Master Saddler since 1985, he established Saddlefit 4 Life® in 2005. Jochen is a guest clinician at horse shows, trade shows, veterinary colleges and international schools for trainer and equine professional certification. Jochen will provide in-depth Saddle Fitting lectures and demonstrations at the Northwest Horse Fair.  He joins the expo from his home north of Toronto, Ontario.

Rick Lamb, from Phoenix, Arizona, is a veteran TV and Radio host, author, and speaker. He’s well known for his television program The Horse Show with Rick Lamb on RFD-TV. His wife, Diana, is director and primary videographer for Rick’s magazine format TV program, which has been recognized with numerous awards. Rick brings a wealth of insight and speaking skill to his expo lectures, leaving audiences with plenty of food for thought as well as practical suggestions for improving their lives with horses.

Based in Los Angeles, Kristina Harrison-Antell offers dressage training for all levels of riders and horses.  She qualified for the 2003 Pan-American Games, in 2006 she won USDF Intermediaire 2 Horse of the Year award, and in 2007, she placed third in the USDF National Grand Prix Championships. She trained extensively with Klaus Balkenhol in Germany, where she competed successfully to Grand Prix level. Kristina will provide a series of dressage clinics at the Northwest Horse Fair.

Peggy Cummings is an internationally recognized equestrian clinician.  She developed her Connected Riding® methods from years of training in both Western and English disciplines, the study of human and equine movement, and a passion for helping people and horses learn easily. Peggy joins the Northwest Horse Fair & Expo from her home in Poulsbo, Washington.

Raye Lochert trains and conducts horsemanship clinics all over the U.S. and at his home ranch in Northern California.  Raye is considered one of the most accessible teachers, using an approachable style that’s easy to understand. His clients feel empowered, capable of handling their own horses, no matter what their discipline or level of riding.

Jasmine Lechner-Cyphert, from Seal Rock, Oregon, has been a professional horse trainer for over 17 years, starting colts, training horses for multiple disciplines, helping problem horses, competing, and hosting a variety of clinics. She’s competed in a wide range of disciplines, and was the 2010 Champion of the Extreme Mustang Makeover at the Northwest Horse Fair.

In between clinics, scores of horses representing breeds from all over the world will provide entertainment and education in the Breed Showcase and Stallion Reviews. Andalusians, Canadian Horses, Peruvian Horses, Mustangs, Miniature Donkeys, and American Quarter Horses are among the many highlights audiences can see. From tiny miniature donkeys to enormous draft horses; prancing, sliding and reining horses; horses that are led, ridden and driven; even horses decked out in authentic Cavalry gear; all will demonstrate the diversity of the equine!
 
Shopping – A Hot Spot for Horse Enthusiasts!
Nearly 70,000 square feet of space in 2 buildings, will feature vendors from all over the United States, offering a broad selection of products and services for horse owners and horse lovers. Among the array of trade show attractions will be trailers, tack, clothing, hats, boots, feed, farm products, gifts, services, and much more!
 
 
Benefit for Albany Helping Hands Homeless Shelter
The Northwest Horse Fair and Expo will once again offer Friday attendees a $1 off gate admission discount, in return for their donation of non-perishable food item(s), to benefit the Albany Helping Hands Homeless Shelter. Expo attendees may bring their food donation to the entrance gate and receive their ticket price discount at that time. Limit is one discount per person; discount is off regular gate admission only.
 
KMTR Youth Day – Free Admission!
Young horse enthusiasts have the opportunity to get in free, on Sunday March 24, which is Youth Day, sponsored by KMTR-TV. All children 12 years and under, get in free with a paid adult admission that day, plus 4-H and Pony Club members ages 13 to 18 get in free with their club ID cards.  “We’re proud to offer Youth Day, to thank the clubs that educate young people about horses, and to support the future of the horse industry,” said Mr. Cloe. “And all children aged 5 and under, get in free daily at the Northwest Horse Fair, when accompanied by a paid adult admission.”

Ticket prices are discounted if purchased in advance for the Northwest Horse Fair and Expo.  Advance tickets are $10 per day for adults and $5 per day for children aged 6 to 12. Tickets at the gate are $12 per day for adults and $6 per day for children 6 to 12; and children 5 and under get in free. Cash only for tickets purchased at the gate. Advance tickets are available at all Coastal stores, at the Linn County Fair & Expo Center and at additional retail locations throughout Oregon and Washington. A complete list of ticket sales outlets is listed at www.equinepromotions.net. Advance ticket sales will end Thursday March 21 at store closing time.
