
AUBURN, Wash. (Sept. 3, 2011) – Marquetching was never headed Saturday and rolled to a 1-½ length triumph over Goldledue in the Best Western Peppertree Purse for 3-year-olds at Emerald Downs.
With Pedro Terrero riding, Marquetching ran six furlongs in 1:10.85 on a fast track and paid $12, $4.40 and $2.60. Tim Harder is the winning trainer for owner R & O Harder Racing Inc.
Goldledue, the 4-to-5 favorite ridden by Leslie Mawing, finished second and paid $2.40 and $2.10. It was 2-½ lengths back to Evil Urges in third place, and a $2.20 show payoff.
Hillbilly Cadillac and Major Mac finished fourth and fifth, and Six Gigs dropped far back early and was eased.
Breaking from the outside post in a six-horse field, Marquetching easily cleared the field, set fractions of :22.93, :45.66 and :57.76, and then held betting favorite Goldledue safe in the stretch run. A Washington-bred 3-year-old colt by Marquetry-Kaaching, Marquetching is 2-2-1 in seven lifetime starts.
NOTES: Juan Gutierrez rode four winners on the eight-race card for his fourth four-win day of the meet. His 88 wins overall rank second in the standings…Leading rider Leslie Mawing rode two winners—his fifth straight multiple win day—and leads with 107 wins…Gutierrez scored in the nightcap aboard Heza Witch Doctor ($10.60) as Howard Belvoir extended his lead to 47-44 over Frank Lucarelli in the trainers standings…Live racing continues Sunday with first post at 2:15 p.m. Race eight is the $60,000 Bank of America Emerald Challenge Championship, featuring 10 older Quarter Horses at 440 yards. And race nine is a $21,000 allowance at 1 1-16 miles including four horses that ran in the Longacres Mile.
