Redmond, Wash. (February 18, 2012) – Acclaimed actor Tom Skerritt dazzled audiences at a performance of Cavalia on Friday night. Known for roles such as Viper in “Top Gun” and Dallas in “Alien,” Skerrit traded in his acting shoes for cowboy boots as he rode across the stage on one of Cavalia’s horses in celebration of the show’s 1,900th performance.
Just before the curtain rose for the 8 p.m. show, Skerritt presented an Andalusian horse sculpture to Cavalia to commemorate the occasion. Hand-crafted by artists in Portugal, the sculpture represents the high-stepping Andalusian horse. Also known as Pure Spanish Breed or P.R.E., Cavalia features 18 Andalusian horses in its Seattle show.
Cavalia has performed 1,900 shows in more than 40 cities in the U.S., Canada and Europe since its world premiere in Quebec, Canada in 2003. The show has been acclaimed by critics everywhere, including The Seattle Times’ Misha Berson, who called Cavalia’s 2004 performance “in a stable of its own,” and said of the renewed 2012 performance, “an amazing dream, a beguiling spectacle of acrobatic and equestrian prowess, and phantasmagorical optics.”
“When Cavalia began in 2003 as an expression of the profound bond between humans and horses, we had no idea that the response would be so overwhelmingly positive,” said Normand Latourelle, founder and artistic director of Cavalia. “Seattle has been a gracious and welcoming host city, both this year and when we first visited in 2004, and we are honored to celebrate this milestone here.”
Cavalia will be performing under the Big White Top at King County’s Marymoor Park until March 4, 2012. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.cavalia.net.
