This past weekend horses, riders, vendors, and attendees all flocked to the 2nd Annual Cascade Horse Fair in Lynden, WA. Held at the new Tractor Arena at the Northwest Washington Fairgrounds, the weekend was bustling with activities, Ken_McNabb_riding_April_webshopping, and clinics. Ken McNabb, nationally known clinician, worked with Curt Storbakken in the hydra bull clinic. Ken also worked with 4 riders on issues with their horses. It was especially fun for me to ride with Ken this year. He had great insight and helped me with some issues I was having with proper use of my hands and asking for a proper headset.

Allison Trimble of Coastal Equine Performance Horses debuted this year at the show. Her new training program “Willfully Guided” was a hit with riders and proved to be of great interest to participants and attendees. I had the privilege of riding with Allison in one of her sessions and worked on getting a good stop. It’s been fun riding with Allison and I look forward to working with her in 2012. Watch for her at the Washington State Horse Expo February 17-19, 2012 at the Clark County Event Center in Ridgefield, WA.

Attendance was up this year and there were several new vendors. From flavored popcorn, pole buildings, photographers, clothing, therapy products, equine massage, breed displays, cutting, rail-to-trail show and even a fashion show by Cattlelac Cowgirl! It was great fun and something to plan for in 2012. Tracey Westbury was the woman behind the vision for this show. Events like this take a great deal of planning and work. Thanks for pulling this together for the horse people in our area, Tracey. We need more horse stuff to do in the fall and winter months.

There were several good demos/clinics this year including:
Ken McNabb Horsemanship and colt starting
Allison Trimble ~ Showpen Strategies
Curt Storbakken ~ Intro to Cutting on Hydrabull
Friesians at Liberty
Mission Farrier ~ Identifying Balance in your Horse/Treating laminitis & Founder
Matrix Therapy Products
Equine Massage with Equine Harmony
Costume classes and more!

This year “Project Hope” was introduced, collecting canned food for the needy. Thank you to Craig Johnson (HayHuts) for the idea!
