When I get tired or discouraged I always try and think of what juices me up and gets me excited about life! I learned a valuable lesson from my Border Collie, Daze this morning. Now mind you, this routine is a daily thing. First thing in the morning as soon as I start moving around I feel a muzzle near my ear. She’s encouraging me to get up and start moving around. At times it’s very annoying, “Just 5 more minutes, I’ll get up,” I say as I bargain with her. Not a chance. She bounces up and down off the bed until a roll out and get my clothes on to go do chores.
She is racing back and forth in the bedroom, helping me find my socks, licking my face as I bend over to put my socks on, slip on my pants and somehow make my way towards the outside. She has a zest for life that shames me.
Once outside she races for the barn like it’s the Kentucky Derby. At first she always startled the horses but now they wake up as soon as I open the back door. She herds the cats, the wheelbarrow and watches carefully as I lead the horses out to their pens. She lives for this. What’s even better is we do this 3x per day.
She spends all day with me at work but her heart is in doing chores. I’m ashamed to say I do really enjoy chores but she’s got me beat. Why are we humans so complicated? It was a valuable lesson to me that the simple things in life are really what it’s all about.
Simplicity! When will we ever learn?
