Bug Block® Easy Swipe - New From Absorbine®

Absorbine customers requested a “swipe on” product that would be easy to use in sensitive areas. Bug Block Easy Swipe was born. Not only is it effective on biting flies, gnats, ticks, and chiggers, but it works on hard-to-kill health threats such as scorpions, Black Widow spiders, cockroaches, and mosquitoes. This includes the Culex species of mosquito, which has been known to transmit the West Nile Virus. Bug Block is approved for use on horses and everywhere horses will encounter flies. Visit www.absorbine.com for more information.

Revolutionary quick-release stirrup could save lives

The Australian owned and developed Bostock Irons will stop riders being caught in their stirrup when falling – an accident that kills and maims hundreds of people around the world every year. Work on the stirrup began

17 years ago when its inventor, Hayden Bostock, was badly injured when dragged by his horse while mustering in outback Western Australia.

While other quick-release stirrups are on the market, the Bostock Iron is different because it looks and feels like a normal stirrup but has the added benefit of offering a quick-release. The Bostock Iron will initially be released in three designs: Bostock Racing Iron, Bostock Trackwork Iron, and Bostock Stockman's Iron. More designs will be released later in the year such as the Bostock Dressage, Polo and Children’s Irons.

The Bostock Irons will initially only be for sale via BBL’s website www.bblinternational.com.au and expand into selected stores later in the year.

TRAINER'S CHALLENGE AT THE MANE EVENT

The final showdown of the Trainer's Challenge at the Mane Event was a wonderful display of both horsemanship and sportsmanship. Ken McNabb of Wyoming took the championship trophy, to the delight of the crowd that attended the final day of the event at Clark County Fairgrounds. But runners-up Raye Lochert of California and Bill Campbell of Michigan also won the hearts of the spectators with their training integrity and expertise.

Lochert will be contesting the next Trainer's Challenge at the Mane Event at the Westerner Park in Red Deer, AB, April 27-29. He will be joined by Steve Rother and Jay O'Jay. It will be the Mane Event's first appearance in Alberta.

Paint Horse Breeders Trust awards record amount for 2006

The American Paint Horse Association (APHA) recently announced the payout results of its 2006 Breeders Trust program – a record-setting $1,072,150.82. This figure is more than $28,000 over the previous record amount, set the year before. Enrolled horses received $14.72 for every APHA performance, racing or halter point they earned during 2006.

“Paints enrolled in the Breeders Trust incentive program have proven themselves a very valuable commodity,” said APHA Breeders Trust Coordinator Candy Cain. “With such a lucrative opportunity to earn added money, many industry professionals are actively seeking out these horses.”

For the sixth consecutive year, the stallion that sired the most money-earning Breeders Trust foals was Zippos Sensation, a 1993 sorrel overo stallion owned by Simons Show Horses, LLC of Aubrey, Texas. Eighty-five of his foals earned a total of $88,941.94 during 2006.
