![]() From My Saddle From My Saddle – Feb 04 Transforming My Future…… The first part of the year is always a time for reflection and evaluation for me. Once the holidays are past and the New Year is before me I feel compelled to move forward! Change is inevitable in life. I seem to have a knack for initiating change by trying something new if things lie constant too long. Either that, or some event in my life does it for me!? At rare times I feel that a little stability and minor change for a while would be welcomed; however, it’s not in the cards for me. So, with that in mind, how can I ride the tides of change? I believe a positive future has some important components. First, choosing a direction is paramount. Wondering aimlessly without focus or purpose only intensifies a sense of hopelessness. It is difficult to move forward without direction. Secondly, I must create accountability. Sharing plans with a trusted individual increases commitment to seeing them through. Having someone close who listens, helps to clarify and support your ideas (no matter how crazy they are) is critical. Thirdly, I must understand my weaknesses. Part of successful leadership is understanding what one is good at and focusing energy in that direction. The other part is evaluating areas of weakness and finding others who can fill in the gaps. Finally, pursuing forgiveness for myself and others is critical. Extending forgiveness frees individuals to learn from past mistakes and move forward. That being said I’m starting my transformation with the New Year! I’m experiencing the reality of recovering from yet another mad dash Christmas. I’m committed to changing this insanity. Starting right now I’m going to make a change this next year. I’m planning ahead to allow time for a meaningful Christmas. Whatever happened to “Christmas in July” store specials? Having time to come up with thoughtful Christmas gifts is so rewarding for both parties. Through our magazine, we hope to bring our readers great specials all year long so Christmas isn’t a mad rush! Check out our pages of great horse products and services. We’re under construction and have changed the format of our Equine Marketplace to make shopping even easier, both online and in the magazine! Part of our focus here at NWHS is to provide quality information for our readers. We want readers to come away feeling like they’ve learned some helpful piece of information that can make them more successful in their purchasing, riding or horse care issues. Your input is very important to us. Please take time to write us with your comments, questions and ideas so that we are able to better serve your needs. Letters to the editor are always welcome! Send them in! I look forward to seeing many of you at the Horse Affair in Boise Idaho, February 13-15, 2004. It’s a great place to see what the horse industry has to offer! Take care and remember to ride! Copyright © 2008 The NW Horse Source |
