I’m very big on belief and passion. When you love what you do and believe without a doubt in impending success, it just naturally happens! Positive thinking is a powerful tool when growing a business. The challenges can seem overwhelming, so focusing on the positive rather than the negative makes all the difference in the world.
Right now is a very exciting time for Northwest Horse Source. We’re continuing to make changes towards a promising future, and I have a committed staff that is going to take us to the next level. I’m extremely fortunate to have connected with the people I have in my life right now, and for all of this I give thanks.
In this issue, please join me in getting to know a wonderful couple who started in the horse trailer business around 30 years ago. It’s people like the Johnsons who impact our industry with a level of commitment to quality and service that is becoming increasingly rare. You'll find their story on page ??
Our focus this month is tack and equipment. We have some informative articles on the subject, including what you should know when selecting a gate (page ??), and a look at the history and current use of bosals (page ??). Every page is loaded with the places and people who will help you find your next piece of horse gear.
And speaking of purchasing horse gear, most of us could use a few extra dollars in our pockets and money that flows in without effort on your part is the best kind of gift to yourself. So why not give our new Equine Marketplace Affiliate Program a try? It’s an incredibly simple way for businesses, clubs, and organizations to earn some extra income without any cost or distraction. For details, see page ??
The people represented on the pages of this magazine are especially important to Northwest Horse Source. Without the talented writers and generous businesses and individuals who occupy these pages, we would not be on the feed store shelves every month. We’re incredibly thankful for their contributions. Have a blessed summer and remember to ride!
In Memory of….
As she closed her eyes and took her last breath, my heart sank. My friend, companion, and partner was gone forever. Last weekend was one of the toughest things I’ve been through in a very long time. It was paralyzing, agonizing...today is still very raw.
Caddie was nearly fifteen years old. I remember back when I was first starting the magazine. She was a young dog then. I was still in my home office and Caddie was with me most of the time. Through all the late nights, the stressful and worried times as well as the fun, exciting, happy times, she was there. Everything seemed okay no matter how the day went.
I’m still amazed at how much influence these amazing animals can have over our lives. There is so much we can learn from them. I guess our greatest risk in loving our animals is the hurt we feel when they’re gone. I can’t even begin to describe the grief I’m feeling at this moment
I know she’s in heaven now, waiting for me. I have many years of wonderful memories to hold near to my heart until I see her again. I guess the greatest lesson I’ve learned from Caddie is unconditional love. No matter what happened or how I behaved, she always loved me. Anything beyond that didn’t matter--she was always happy to just be with me. I feel very privileged to have been her person for so many years. Goodbye Caddie, I will miss you terribly.
