Dear Shaboom and Clyde, My pony is losing weight and when she eats she slobbers all over. What is wrong with her? Mickey, Yelm WA.
Mickey, The most likely cause of this problem is that your pony needs her teeth floated. Horses’ teeth keep growing throughout their lives and as they grind their food the teeth may wear unevenly. This can cause discomfort and difficulty while chewing their food, especially as they grow older. The best solution would be to take your pony to a vet or equine dentist to have her teeth checked and floated.
Famous Stallions: Past, Present, Fictional and Not.
There have been many famous stallions in our history both fictional and real. It would be impossible to list them all on this page so we chose a few from different breeds, movies and books which were influential.
- Khemosabi was the US National Champion Arabian Stallion in 1973. - Justin Morgan was the foundation stallion for the Morgan breed. He lived to the age of 32 years (1789-1821). - Seattle Slew was the only Triple Crown winner to reach the Triple Crown without ever losing a race. - Man o’ War, nicknamed Big Red, was a famous thoroughbred racehorse who won 20 of his 21 starts. In 8 of his 11 starts as a 3-year-old he broke either a track or world record. At stud, his offspring numbered in the hundreds with winnings in the millions. He died at the age of 30 (1917-1947). - Brilliant 1271, a black Percheron stallion foaled in 1877 and imported in 1881, is recognized as the most famous and proponent animal of the breed ever imported into the United States. - Wimpy P-1 was awarded the number 1 in the AQHA registry after being named Grand Champion Stallion at the 1941 Fort Worth Exposition and Fat Stock Show. - Dash For Cash (AQHA) won 21 of 25 starts earning $507,688. He produced 1369 foals, 1154 of which were race starters, earning nearly $40,000,000 as of 1999. He is still one of the most influential bloodlines in Quarter Horse racing today. - The Black in the movie The Black Stallion was played by a purebred Arabian named Cass-ole. Cass-ole had to undergo a little cosmetic alteration. Since “The Black” is supposed to be completely black his forehead star and 4 white socks were dyed and a ‘horse wig’ was woven into his mane so he would appear more like the wild indomitable stallion of the book. - Black Beauty was played by an AQHA stallion named Docs Keepin Time (a.k.a. Justin). He won the Silver Spur award through the AQHA and also appeared in the movie the Horse Whisperer. - Hidalgo was depicted in the movie as an American Mustang but was in fact played by 5 APHA (paint) horses; Ima Stage Mount Two, Honky Tonkin Tuff, Impressivelybetter, RH Tecontender, and RJ Master bug. - Thunderhead was the white son of Flicka in Mary O’Hara’s books.
