Light in a Dark Time for the Northwest Horse Source
Mid July found us relaxing, riding our horses and enjoying time together at a
horse camp near Deming, Washington. Today things look very different for all of
us. Mary Trout, graphic designer on our team, was diagnosed with an inoperable
malignant brain tumor.
Mary is just 40 years old with a husband, Bob and four year old son, Cody.
She is a wonderful person with a genuine love for people. Mary is optimistic and
happy. The clients love her and no matter who Mary deals with, she’s a beam of
light in their day. She is a remarkable employee and a perfect fit with NWHS
because of her passionate love of horses. We all feel an immense hole in our
team since she began treatment in the Seattle area.
Similar comments are pouring in from some of you in the horse community.
“Mary told me that during treatment she lies still for a half hour praying that
those touched by her life will be able to see God work. That’s the heart of
Mary! It shows up in the horse world also. She’s always available to help
animals and people. She’s great to have in our club. In horseman language: Mary
is well broke, anyone can handle her and she has great ground manners. In other
words...she’s a keeper!” Kathy H.
The darkness of the past few weeks has been penetrated by Mary’s incredible
faith and focus on encouraging others. We decided to give our readers a glimpse
of her inspiration and hope. Following are excerpts from Mary’s journal:
