Fun Facts About Horses
1. Horses are extremely curious. As soon as they see a newcomer entering their field, they come forward to investigate.
2. Domestic horses retain their strong instinct to remain in a herd. But each horse prefers to have it’s own distance of at least three feet in front and behind.
3. Horses spend much of their time eating. They feed whenever they are hungry, during the day or night.
4. If a horse feels healthy he looks healthy. His eyes are bright and he has a glossy coat, he is alert and interested in his surroundings and he socializes with other horses.
5. A sure sign that a horse is in good condition is the covering of flesh over his ribs. You should be able to feel his ribs easily under the skin but they should not stick out.

Have fun with your horse!

Do you get tired of the monotony of the arena, doing the same thing over and over? Well so does your horse. It is always a good idea to give your horse new experiences to prevent him from becoming bored and arena sour. Here are a few tips to help you have fun with your horse:
1. Go trail riding with friends. The change in scenery is good for relaxing both you and your horse. Getting out of the arena at least once a week is recommended.
2. Play games with your horse in the arena. Do something totally unlike his training regimen. If you have a pleasure horse, for example, lope through a barrel racing course. The important thing is to do something totally different from his usual arena experience.
3. Teach your horse some simple tricks. This will not only stimulate your horse’s mind, it will give you something to impress your friends with at the next show or 4-H meeting. There are several books available which give instructions on how to teach your horse simple tricks.
4. Most importantly, be safe. No matter the activity you and your horse should be wearing the appropriate safety gear. Do not do something which may endanger you or your horse’s safety.
