Some days I just love life more than usual. This is one of those days. I’m writing this column having just returned from a short trip to Kingston, WA in the San Juan Islands, where I had the pleasure of visiting a local artist, Kim McElroy, at her home. The smell of blooming flowers around a quaint cottage, mixed with a gentle ocean breeze created a relaxing atmosphere. Kim and her husband, Rod, work from this remarkable location surrounded by the horses, goats, dogs, cats and pot-bellied pigs they love. I was struck by the richness of this simple life.
After ten years publishing this magazine I never cease to be amazed at the quality people I have the pleasure of meeting. My mother, Esther, who has been an incredible support since the magazine’s early beginnings, still travels with me on some of these adventures. It is truly an honor to have her love and support.
Speaking of family, I’m sad to see my sister, Sharon, leave the position of Editor with the magazine. She has given shape and purpose to the editorial. I couldn’t have done this without her. However, life is ever changing. As she pursues her dreams of working with young people she hands over the torch to a capable young woman by the name of Amy Blackwood. I’m excited to introduce Amy to our readers and look forward to the new perspective she will bring to our readers.
June is a month full of opportunity for our staff as we attend our annual American Horse Publications Seminar and Convention. This year AHP comes to Seattle! We’re excited to host so many great horse publications here in the Northwest. As a team, we are looking forward to the new ideas and great contacts we will bring back to share with our readers!
This issue is full of great products to try, and information on trailer safety, training, equipment and more! We’ve got a great line-up of ideas for summer so you won’t want to miss a single issue! The pages of this issue are brimming with specials. Be sure to check each page; you never know what specials you may find!
Enjoy your summer and take time to ride your horse. That way, the two of you will have a better summer. I’m working toward that goal myself.
