here are literally millions of web pages available on the Internet. A search for "horse" at google.com found close to 5 million related sites. The burning issue: How can your customers find your web site?
First, your site must incorporate proper META DATA. Primarily, meta data is used by search engines - such as Google.com, Yahoo.com, Dogpile.com, Hotbot.com, dmoz.org, and others - to identify your site. There are dozens of Meta Tags that can be used - I've listed a few common ones below.
<META name="author" content="Amy Cowen">
<META name="keywords" content="horse, riding, Washington, feed, Horse Source, source, magazine">
<META NAME="Description" Content="The Northwest Horse Source - everything you're looking for about horses, horses for sale, breeders, training tips, veterinarian articles, horse clubs, web site hosting.>
Without meta tags search engine have limited ability to classify your site. This limits the possibility of your site being found when a surfer goes searching.
Second, you want to manually identify your site to various search engines. There are plenty of companies that will insert your site for a fee, but you certainly can do it for yourself. You can also pay some companies (yahoo.com) to include you in their directories.
Third, be sure to have your site included in national subject based directories (i.e.. nwhorsesource.com). These directory sites receive a large number of visitors and the users are already interested in subject of your site.
And finally, be sure to identify your web address to all your customers in your email signature, printed materials, and advertising.
