The Irish Draught Horse dates back to the close of the 18th Century. They were bred to be a versatile, dual-purpose animal. Farmers bred an agile, strong, yet gentle animal that they could work, drive and ride on the farm. To support the Irish passion for the sport of hunting, they bred for endurance, galloping and jumping. Their bravery and intelligence is legendary. Perhaps the most outstanding characteristic of the Irish Draught is the temperament. They are generous, forgiving, even-going and tolerant of rider error. Combined with a strong work ethic, this horse is a great choice for amateur riders, pleasure riding, eventing and show jumping; A truly versatile horse.
