Darren Chiacchia Making Promising Steps Toward A Successful Recovery

May 2008

BOSTON.  EquiFit, inc., the equine industry's innovator of protective performance gear, announces that sponsored rider and dear friend Darren Chiacchia is making positive progress after a life threatening accident during the Red Hills Horse Trials on March 15.  The Olympic medal winner is showing signs of improvement and is eager to pick up where he left off.

Other than having some slight pain in the rib area, Darren doesn't appear to have any physical ailments.  After being in a semi-conscious state for 42 days, his doctors and therapists are in constant amazement of his progress.  "I have one number one goal.  That is to make a 100 percent recovery," states Darren.  "I'm working very closely with the best people I've been able to contact to make that recovery.  Everything that I'm doing, I'm doing under the best guidance that I can.  We're just going one step at a time"

Back in the saddle, Darren has all of his horses, but is taking it slow. "Riding is as much emotional therapy as it is physical therapy," Darren explains.  "There are a lot of things in my life that I wanted to do that I'm going to do.  Horses are a huge part of that and will continue to be a huge part of that.  I will continue to teach, train and ride.  There is no reason to believe that I should not make a full recovery."

Darren Chiacchia has been competing in equestrian events for over 20 years.  His determination and insight have been predominant traits and will continue to help get him through this.  With sincere appreciation, Darren continues to work toward his goals.  "I can't thank my long-time owners and sponsors enough.  They have been behind me and supporting me through every step of my recovery," said Darren.  "Alexandra Cherubini and Travis Day at EquiFit have been phenomenal and so supportive."

Wishing Darren continuing progress and success, EquiFit continues to be a very proud sponsor of one of the top talents in three day eventing.
