Appaloosas Dominate Track in Dash for Colors Stakes

CLAREMORE, Okla.—Appaloosa gelding, Texas Royal Snow, proved to be the fastest horse on the track in a 300-yard stake race at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla. Mar. 29. The stake race offered a $15,000 purse.

Appaloosa gelding, Texas Royal Snow, cleared the track and glided into the winner’s circle after easily defeating the competition. The Oklahoma-bred Appaloosa drew off under Stormy Smith and completed the race in 15.630 seconds. The 4-year-old gelding won $9,000, bringing his lifetime earnings to $137,312. Texas Royal Snow is by This Snow is Royal (AQHA) out of Texas Union (ApHC), by Moon Lark (AQHA). Texas Royal Snow is proudly owned and was bred by Jimmy Maddux of Weatherford, Texas and is trained by Brandon Parum.

Following second was Appaloosa gelding, Moon Bully. The 4-year-old gelding Appaloosa crossed the finish line in 15.810 seconds with Cody Smith aboard. Moon Bully won $3,000, bringing his lifetime earnings to $46,476. The Tennessee-bred Appaloosa is by Man With The Power (ApHC) out of TB Fancy Moon (AQHA), by Moon Lark (AQHA). Moon Bully is proudly owned by Jeff Adams and Brad Anderson, bred by John Holley and trained by Tina Seely.

Appaloosa gelding, Dashboard Drummer, completed the track in 15.960 seconds to earn third place. The 7-year-old gelding won $1,650, bringing his lifetime earnings to $52,812. The Colorado-bred Appaloosa is by Special Leader (AQHA) out of Twinkle In Your Eye (ApHC), by Some Dasher (AQHA).  Dashboard Drummer is proudly owned by John Barnett of Warner, Okla., bred by John White Jr., trained by Bill Griffin and was ridden by Tony Bennett.

Other horses who competed include Billy Buckeye (APHA), Western Snow (APHA), Buddy Mixer (APHA) and So Royally Quick (APHA).

Appaloosa Racing
Appaloosas have long been an integral part of one of America’s most popular spectator sports—horse racing. The Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC) officially recognized the sport in 1962, beginning Appaloosa racing history with four races and 23 starters competing for $12,000 in total purses. In 2006, 203 starters competed in 440 races for $2,904,774 in total purses.

Racing fans can find Appaloosas crossing the finish line in Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Washington and Wyoming.
