Appaloosa Proves to be the Fastest Color Breed to Cross the Finish Line

CLAREMORE, Okla.—Appaloosa mare, Zoomin From the Bar, earned the blue ribbon in a 330-yard claiming race at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla. Apr. 1. The claiming race offered a $7,330 purses.

Zoomin From the Bar, a 6-year-old Appaloosa mare, drew off under Berkley Packer and crossed the finish line in 17.328 seconds. Zoomin From the Bar won $4,406, bringing her lifetime earnings to $17,259. The Oklahoma-bred Appaloosa is by Shazoom (AQHA) out of I’m a Jet Bar (ApHC), by Flaming Jet (AQHA). Zoomin From the Bar is owned and was bred by E. Bruce Miller of Stroud, Okla. and is trained by John Wartchow.

Following in second was Chicks a Meddlin, a 5-year-old Paint Horse mare. The mare completed the track in 17.378 seconds to win $1,152. Chicks a Meddline is owned by Chris Fowler, is trained by Johnny Ward and was ridden by Mike Frederick.

Patchskid, a 3-year-old Appaloosa gelding, finished the race in 17.435 seconds to earn third place. Patchskid won $1,014, bringing his lifetime earnings to $11,863. The Oklahoma-bred Appaloosa is by Financial Rewards (AQHA) out of Miss Easy Patch (ApHC), by Easy Kid (ApHC). Patchskid is owned by and bred by Don Vandiver of Wainwright, Okla., trained by James Limbaugh and was ridden by Adam Roughley.

Other horses who completed the race include Cowboy Cut (ApHC), Quick Hombre (APHA), Tequila Queen (ApHC), Your Unbelievable (APHA), Peppy Dash (ApHC) and Makin Money (APHA).

Horses competing in this race were available for purchase for $10,000.

Appaloosa Racing
Appaloosas have long been an integral part of one of America’s most popular spectator sports—horse racing. The Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC) officially recognized the sport in 1962, beginning Appaloosa racing history with four races and 23 starters competing for $12,000 in total purses. In 2006, 203 starters competed in 440 races for $2,904,774 in total purses.

Racing fans can find Appaloosas crossing the finish line in Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Washington and Wyoming.
