FEATURED ARTIST: Lynette Smith of Lynette Smith Photography
Quite modestly, photographer Lynnette Smith prefers to chat about her life-enriched journey with horses rather than elaborate upon her photography skills. For Lynette - horses spell passion and combining horses with photography is as natural to her as breathing.
She was given her first camera at a very young age and, through the lens, learned to see the world from a different perspective. For the past 10 years Lynette has offered stunning equine images by blending heartbeat, hoof beat and camera. “My photography isn’t about taking a pretty picture, it’s about freezing an unspeakable moment in time,” she explains, “It’s about instinct, feel, passion and capturing the essence of my subject, especially the horse.”
Lynette started riding at an early age and managed to keep up the habit as she matured into an adult. After years of affection for these majestic creatures, Lynette, at the age of 36 became the proud owner of her first horse. “Owyhee” has become one of Lynette’s best teachers. He has taught her to be more courageous, less fearful, to look for other answers, and that at times one must take the path less traveled to learn what her horse needs.”
Her chemistry with horses allows her to capture their true spirit through the lens of her camera. An avid rider, Lynette is familiar with the cadence and rhythm of the horse’s movement and her photos demonstrate their true athleticism. Lynette explains, “I can count the beats and hear the hoof strikes in my mind; it helps me click the shutter at the perfect time”.
Based in Wenatchee, Washington, Lynette prefers to take photos of her subjects in their familiar environments where poise comes with natural ease. She is a member of the Equine Photographers Network and the American Quarter Horse Association. Her photography has been featured in local publications, advertising, for commercial use and in a recently published book for Ohme Gardens.
Lynette continues her life’s journey one shutter click at a time with her beloved Labrador retriever Jayde and horse Owyhee.
