Judy Wood, Glasswood Studio

November 2005

Printer friendly page
Judy Wood is a Canadian glass artist with over twenty years experience in her medium. A specialist in realistic original design work, she has become well known for her animal work, particularly dogs and horses. Other subject matter portrayed in her work includes rodeo and working cowboys, Native people, both contemporary and historic, polo, racehorse and carousel art.
For the past several years, Judy has worked exclusively in the medium of glass mosaic. This allows her to do the highly detailed work she enjoys, while at the same time producing a virtually non-breakable, unfading work of wall art. Mosaic has a tradition going back over four thousand years, and is one of the classic art media now enjoying a revival.
Judy has shown extensively in western Canada, and her work is featured in collections all over North America and beyond. She has shown her western work at the world famous Calgary Stampede, and exhibits regularly at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, home of some of the top equestrian events in North America. Her work has also been featured in the prestigious horse art magazine, The Equine Image, and in British and American mosaic design books.
Judy is based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, in the heart of the Canadian prairies, where she grew up, married and raised her family (two daughters, now mothers with sons of their own). An active horse owner and rider, Judy schools dressage with her 17 hand Canadian Warmblood (Holsteiner/TB) while her senior Thoroughbred enjoys a well earned retirement. On the home front, Judy and her husband share their space with two Boxer dogs and two SPCA special cats.
